Overview
This sign leads with icons and follows with text — but unlike the icon-first version earlier in this series, the icons here sit at the very top of an otherwise all-text white panel, creating a different visual rhythm. The dual prohibition symbols function as a visual headline that is processed instantly at distance, while the five lines of bold black text below — NO SMOKING / NO VAPING / EXCEPT IN / DESIGNATED / AREAS ONLY — deliver the complete dual-restriction policy with the closing “ONLY” qualifier that sharpens the exception language beyond a simple “except in designated areas” statement.
The “ONLY” at the end of the exception text is worth noting — it appears in just a handful of signs across this entire series and carries a specific legal and behavioral significance. It forecloses any ambiguity about whether the exception is broad or narrow, whether it covers informal smoking spots or only officially posted areas, and whether the policy has any flexibility. “DESIGNATED AREAS ONLY” is a closed statement that leaves no room for interpretation — the exception is precisely bounded, and everywhere else is prohibited without qualification. For Los Angeles properties that have experienced smokers testing the boundaries of loosely worded policies — smoking near but not in the designated area, or treating any outdoor spot as acceptable — the “ONLY” closes that loophole explicitly in the posted sign language.
Key Features & Benefits
- Dual prohibition icons at the top provide instant long-range communication before the text section is legible
- Five-line all-black text block delivers the complete dual-restriction policy with the “ONLY” qualifier that forecloses policy boundary-testing
- “EXCEPT IN DESIGNATED AREAS ONLY” — the most precise exception language in the series — leaves no interpretive flexibility
- Clean all-white panel with black border and red icons — no color hierarchy in the text, all restrictions treated with equal visual weight
- Icon-top format distinguishes this sign from the icon-center and icon-beside-text versions in the series for easy product differentiation
- Effective for properties that have experienced smokers exploiting ambiguous exception language in previous signage
- Built for permanent outdoor installation — resistant to sun, rain, and temperature extremes
- Ideal for Los Angeles office complexes, hospitality properties, healthcare campuses, and any facility where precise, unambiguous dual-restriction language has become a compliance necessity
