The Sign California Requires Wherever You Have Accessible Parking

California Building Code Section 11B-502.8 requires an additional sign at every off-street parking facility that provides accessible spaces. It must be posted in a conspicuous place at each entrance, or immediately adjacent to the accessible parking and visible from each accessible space. This is separate from the entrance tow-away sign required by California Vehicle Code Section 22658 — most properties need both.

This sign meets that standard. It measures 24″ × 24″, exceeding the 17″ wide by 22″ high statutory minimum, and every character is printed at least 1 inch tall as the code requires.

The legal text is fixed and pre-printed: unauthorized vehicles parked in designated accessible spaces not displaying a distinguishing placard or special license plates issued for persons with disabilities will be towed away at the owner’s expense. Two fields are permanently printed into the sign face from information you supply: the location where towed vehicles may be reclaimed, and the telephone number to call.

Post one sign in plain view at each vehicle entrance, or adjacent to your accessible spaces where it is visible from every accessible stall.
